New Composer Mark Suozzo, Missy Elliot, Theatrical Premieres, & More

 
 

When listening to the music of Mark Suozzo, his keen sense for subtlety and emotion are palpable. And his ability to write seamlessly across genres comes as no surprise considering his credits as a film composer, guitarist, arranger, and conductor. 

Suozzo's film music includes scores for several Academy Award-Nominated films in scripted and documentary genres. He has also contributed arrangements to many recording artists, including Creed, Aretha Franklin, Cissy Houston, Britney Spears, and more. Hear Us In The Remix: Hip Hop X Fashion

The Remix: Hip Hop X Fashion premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in May. The film showcases the influence that fashion architect Misa Hylton and streetwear designer April Walker, amongst others, had on hip hop's rising female stars of the '80s and '90s, from iconic looks styled in influential music videos to their global cultural impact.

Hear Us In The Lavender Scare

The Lavender Scare tells the little-known story of how tens of thousands of homosexual US federal workers were either fired or denied employment in the 1950s, stirring outrage in the gay community and starting an LGBTQ rights movement with an unlikely hero at the forefront. Oovra Music is proud to have licensed music into this film.

The film will premiere in theaters and on PBS this month. Check out the airing schedule below.

Two-Part Series "Reconstruction" Premieres Tonight!

Henry Louis Gates, Jr. presents the definitive history of the transformative years following the American Civil War, when the nation struggled to rebuild itself amidst profound loss, massive destruction and revolutionary social change.

The first two hours of the series will center on this pivotal decade following the rebellion, charting black progress and highlighting the accomplishments of the many political leaders who emerged to usher their communities into this new era of freedom. The series’ second half will look beyond that hopeful decade, when the arc of history bent backwards.

We are proud to have provided the soundtrack to this two-part, four-hour series about the bold, democratic experiment that was Reconstruction.

Produced by HBO, this film features several great jazz pieces by composer Jordan Seigel, from our Real Jazz catalog.

New Homeland

Two-time Academy Award winner Barbara Kopple chronicles the experiences of five refugee children from war-torn Syria and Iraq whose families have resettled in Canada. In this sweetly observed film, Kopple follows the boys for two weeks at a summer camp in the Canadian wilderness. We watch as some boys thrive while others struggle and the best intentions of the camp counselors are put to the test.

Emmy-nominated composer Paul Damian Hogan's doctoral studies on contemporary classical and electronic music provide the foundation for a uniquely powerful fusion of sounds that grace each of his diverse multimedia projects. In addition to his scores to Birders: The Central Park Effect (HBO), Approaching the Unknown, Looks Like Laury, Sounds Like Laury (PBS) andShored Up (DirecTV), Paul has written music for bands, art projects, commercials, and is currently collaborating with choreographer Stefanie Batten-Bland on new dance works. His signature sound is a fresh and highly distinctive part of the Oovra Music catalog.
